Capital Campaign
“Why should I support this campaign?”
Poet Archibald MacLeish said, “What is more important in a library than anything else – than everything else – is the fact that it exists.”
Delmar has had a library since 1940, in various sizes and locations. In the early 1980s, the Library moved to its permanent location at the corner of Bi-State Boulevard and Grove Street. Its location is ideal for town residents: one block from the Town’s traffic light, across the street from the Delmar Fire Department, five blocks from the Town’s Middle and High School, and within walking distance of most Town residents. Having a library in a small town like Delmar, like having a strong school system, adds to the value of the community and makes it a selling point for people looking to buy a home and settle here.
Supporting the Capital Campaign increases our ability to service the growing community. Our library is currently too small to successfully serve all the people who want to use it. We receive requests for 100 people who want to attend a program in a room that can only accommodate 50, and we want to serve the 100! This was an indication we needed to grow. We want to accommodate services that support the community like AARP’s volunteer free tax preparation for our community’s low-income and elderly residents.
Why support the Capital Campaign… because our library wants to serve all youth in our community with programs and services to open new opportunities to them, by reading or listening or watching or doing and learning a new skill… because we serve everyone, no matter their age, race, income, sex, or political viewpoint. Our doors are open when other doors are closed to the public.
